Why you need to upgrade
Recently, smoke alarm legislation has become the strictest Queensland has ever seen, this is due to an increased yearly count of house fires and loss of life. Without these safety devices installed in homes occupants are at risk. Without these laws, more and more homes will be lost and sometimes tragically lives are lost also. These new laws will make our homes safer. Ultimately, they will save lives by alerting those in the dwelling that there is smoke in the house somewhere.
These new laws state that from 1st of January 2022, all dwellings being sold, leased or an existing lease is renewed you must comply with the following:
Smoke alarms in the dwelling must:
i) be photoelectric (AS 3786-2014); and
ii) not also contain an ionisation sensor; and
iii) be less than 10 years old; and
iv) operate when tested; and
v) be interconnected with every other smoke alarm in the dwelling so all activate together.

Smoke alarms should be tested and cleaned regularly to ensure they are working
Why are my smoke alarms beeping?
Not all smoke alarms are made equal. Higher quality alarms are less likely to raise a false alarm, as they are built with superior components and cope better with the humid Queensland environment than other cheaper smoke alarms. We only choose the best alarms, because we don’t think anything else is worth the risk. You can feel comfortable too knowing that our Cavius alarms have a 10 year warranty — just for that extra peace of mind.
upgrade my smoke alarms?
Upgrading your smoke alarms will increase you and your family’s protection should there be a fire in your home. Interconnected alarms and alarms in the bedrooms ensure everyone is alerted to a fire, even if they are asleep in bedrooms with doors closed, giving you and your family more time to escape safely. Owner-occupied properties must be upgraded by January 1st 2027.
